Formations of Feeling in Vietnamese Berlin II: Institutional Fields of Parenting Support
In the second round, the project turns towards the institutional field of parenting support programs. It will focus particularly on programs in Berlin that aim to reshape Vietnamese immigrants’ parenting practices to meet official pedagogic guidelines. Our insights from the first project round indicate that parenting support programs are frequently faced with multiple dilemmas and uncertainties, especially when dealing with diverging parenting practices and norms. We expect that affective dynamics and diverse formations of feeling play a crucial role within these interactions. Attending to these dynamics makes it possible to develop new ways of dealing adequately with diverging parenting norms in immigrant contexts.
