News from Oct 26, 2021
In „Mediale Affektökonomie – Emotionen im Reality TV und deren Kommentierung bei Facebook“ Claudia Töpper examines how rules of emotional expression are negotiated and performed in reality TV and by audiences on Facebook. The dissertation, which was written during the first research term of the project, further discusses how emotions in Reality TV contribute to creating a sense of belonging but also produce social exclusion. The author develops the concept of mediale Affektökonomie (mediated affect economy) in order to grasp the order of emotions in networked media environments and affective media practices.
The book is published in German by transcript and available as open access for download.
