Faith, Care, Despair. Affect and religion in climate activism

Projektleitung Mitarbeiter*innen

The project D11 examines the affective dimensions of climate activism in religious groups as well as in secular movements that employ religious symbols and practices. While religious and secular forms of protest are often perceived as fundamentally different in public perception, this research focuses on their connections and overlaps.
The affect theory-based ethnographic field research, which is primarily conducted in Berlin, concentrates on six climate activist initiatives from both spectrums. The focus is on the commonalities, interconnections, and contrasts between these groups – particularly regarding their action-guiding motivations, concrete protest practices, and discursive mobilization strategies.
