Lecture Series "Reflexivity in Research" with sociologist Monika Krause
On December 12, we will host Professor Monika Krause from the London School of Economics, who will present her widely acclaimed book "Model Cases." The lecture will explore how the selection of particular cases shapes and influences our research methodologies and outcomes.
What happens when we take a closer look at "neglected cases"?
In research, we often focus on certain cases and examples while overlooking others. The most well-known example of this is "eurocentrism" – the tendency to treat European experiences as the standard for everything else. But the issue goes beyond that.
Neglected cases are particularly interesting because they differ from the usual, heavily studied examples. Yet they're also different from mere outliers or exceptional cases. This talk shows how we can gain valuable new insights from such neglected cases.
Monika Krause is a Professor in Sociology at the London School of Economics and the author of "Model Cases" (University of Chicago Press, 2021).
